A Valentine for the single ladies

I can remember a time when I dreaded Valentine’s Day. All the advertisements of restaurants & jewelry, the chocolate, flowers, hearts, etc.… were all reminders of what I thought I was missing out on.

If you are blessed with those things, enjoy them. Celebrate that special someone in your life. Love should be celebrated! But I want to bring encouragement to those who may feel like they don’t have a reason to celebrate Valentine's Day.

Single women of God: (or to those who feel alone) You are never alone or abandoned. The Lord sees you. “O my love, how beautiful you are! There is no flaw in you”. Song of Songs 4:7. I am my beloveds and His desire is toward me. – Song of Songs 7:10. Not only does He see you, but His desire is also toward you.

He doesn’t see you as inferior. He doesn’t see your past or your failures. He doesn’t see you as not enough. Remember the woman caught in adultery? Did he condemn her? No, he said, “where are your accusers?” They had all left when he told them “Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.” He then told her, “Go and sin no more”. The Samaritan woman at the well: when Jews would never approach a Samaritan, he asked her for a drink. Then even knowing her past and current history, He offered her Living Water. She ended up evangelizing the entire town! Jesus delivered Mary Magdalene from demons. She became a devoted follower and was the first one to see Him when He rose from the dead. Jesus made sure his mother would be taken care of after the crucifixion. While on the cross he said to John “Behold your mother” and to his mother, he said referring to John, “Behold your son.” John took Mary in under his own roof from that moment on. Jesus loves and has compassion for women.

I want to share a passage that was given to me when I was going through a very difficult trial. It became an anchor when the rug was swept out from under my feet. It was something I could grab ahold of. It still greatly speaks to me and encourages me today. In fact, I type it out today with tears of gratefulness & joy because of the reality of it. There is nothing like the washing of the water of the Word. It is alive and active! If you feel like you are alone in the wilderness, know that He will never leave you or forsake you there. He doesn’t condemn us. In fact, He will speak to you there and He will use that wilderness experience as a door of hope. He is so faithful and true.

Therefore, behold, I will allure her, Bring her into the wilderness and speak kindly to her. Then, I will give her vineyards from there, and the valley of Achor (troubling) as a door of hope. And she will sing there as in the days of her youth, As in the day when she came up from the land of Egypt. It will come about in that day, declares the LORD, “That you will call me Ishi (my husband). I will betroth you to me forever; Yes I will betroth you to me in righteousness and justice, In lovingkindness and compassion. And I will betroth you to me in faithfulness. Then you will know the LORD.

Hosea 2:14-16, 19-20.

I no longer dread Valentine’s Day because I know that I have the truest love of all. Yes, His love is pure. His love is perfect. There is none like Him in all the earth! His goodness and His kindness last forever!

Read that passage from Hosea 2 again, aloud. This time, put your name in there to replace some of those “her and she” words. This is your Lord’s Valentine to you.
